Four hours to enter. Flat by eight.

The algorithm only looks for entries four hours a day. The rest of the day it measures, manages, or does nothing.

00:00–07:00 · measure

The Asia session sets the high and low. No trades.

07:00–11:00 · enter

London opens. A break of the range + 0.1 × ATR can trigger one trade per direction.

11:00–20:00 · manage

No new entries. Open trades move to break-even at 1R and trail.

20:00 · flat

Everything is closed. Fridays too, so nothing is held over the weekend.

  1. 1
    Asia range · 00:00–07:00 UTC

The algorithm marks the high and low of the Asia session. If the range is narrower than 0.8 × ATR or wider than 6 × ATR, it skips the day.

  2. 2
    Breakout · 07:00–11:00 UTC

A break of the range plus a 0.1 × ATR buffer triggers the entry — only in the direction of the H1 EMA200. Here price is above it, so only a buy is allowed.

  3. 3
    Stop loss and take profit

Stop 1.5 × ATR(14, M15) from entry, target at 2R, both sent with the order. The size is set so the stop costs your risk per trade — 0.5% in this example.

  4. 4
    Break-even at 1R

When price reaches 1R, the stop moves to break-even or better, then trails 1 × ATR behind price.

  5. 5
    Exit

The trade ends at 2R, at the trailing stop or at 20:00 UTC, whichever comes first. Many trades hit the stop loss instead.

The rules

Twelve rules. No exceptions.

Same numbers, same order, every trading day. The risk rules are yours to set; the entry and exit rules are the algorithm.

Entry

  • Asia range00:00–07:00 UTC

The high and low of the Asia session form the range for the day.

  • Range filter0.8–6 × ATR

Narrower than 0.8 × ATR or wider than 6 × ATR(14, M15): the day is skipped.

  • Entry window07:00–11:00 UTC

Entries only in the London window, on a break of the range + a 0.1 × ATR buffer.

  • Trend filterEMA200 · H1

Buys only while price is above the hourly EMA200, sells only below it. One trade per direction a day.

Exit

  • Stop loss1.5 × ATR(14, M15)

Measured on the 15-minute ATR at entry and sent with the order to your broker.

  • Take profit2R

Two times the risk, also sent with the order.

  • Break-even + trailingFrom 1R

At 1R the stop moves to break-even or better, then trails 1 × ATR behind price.

  • Daily close20:00 UTC

Everything still open is closed at 20:00 UTC, Fridays included. Nothing is held overnight.

Risk

  • Risk per trade0.25 · 0.5 · 1%

Your risk profile, as a share of account equity. Default 0.5%.

  • Max daily loss2% (default)

Down that much on the day: no new trades until 00:00 UTC. You set the limit.

  • Max trades3 a day (default)

Never more than your daily maximum, and one per direction.

  • Position sizeFrom the stop

Risk amount ÷ loss per lot at the stop, from your broker's tick value, rounded down. If the minimum lot risks too much, the trade is skipped.

Parameters

Every number, in one table.

"You" means you set it in the dashboard; "Rule" means it's part of the algorithm and the same for everyone. Your .set file carries your settings into MT5.

Risk levels

Three risk profiles. You pick.

Risk per trade is a share of your account equity. The lot size follows from the stop distance and your broker's tick value — always rounded down.

  • Conservative 0.25% per trade

The smallest size. A sensible start for a first live month.

On 10,000 USD: 25 USD at risk per trade
  • StandardDefault 0.5% per trade

The default. Half a percent of equity at risk per trade.

On 10,000 USD: 50 USD at risk per trade
  • Aggressive 1% per trade

Twice the default. Bigger swings and bigger losing days.

On 10,000 USD: 100 USD at risk per trade

Size a gold trade

Example calculation
Risk profile (risk per trade)

Gold London Breakout uses 1.5 × ATR(14, M15) — often somewhere around $10–20.

Risk per trade$50.00
Loss per 1.00 lot at the stop$1,350.00
Lot size
0.03 lots

50.00 ÷ 1,350.00 = 0.037 → rounded down to 0.03

Assumes 1.00 lot of XAU/USD = 100 oz, so $100 per $1 move; rounded down to 0.01 lot. Brokers differ — the EA uses your broker's own tick value. An example, not advice.

Higher risk means bigger winning and losing days. Losing streaks happen with any rule set: at 1% per trade, five losses in a row cost about 5% of the account.

Markets + brokers

Gold, at any MT5 broker.

  • XAU/USD onlyOne market, one session. Oil and New York sessions come as separate algorithms.
  • Your broker's symbolXAUUSD, GOLD, XAUUSD.r … set it once.
  • Your broker's contract sizeSizing uses the broker's tick value, so 100 oz or other lot sizes are handled.
  • Your broker's server timeHandled once in setup, so the UTC windows line up.

What it never does

  • Average down or add to a loser
  • Martingale or grid sizing
  • Trade outside the London window
  • Hold positions after 20:00 UTC
  • Round a position size up
  • Keep trading after your daily loss limit
Questions

About Gold London Breakout

Why gold, and why the London open?

Gold is often quiet during the Asia session and gets more active when London opens. The algorithm waits for that move to break the night's range, in the direction of the bigger trend, and lets fixed rules handle the rest. That's a description of the idea — not a promise that it works on any given day.

How often does it trade?

Zero to three times a day. Many days there's no trade at all: the range is too narrow or too wide, the breakout goes against the H1 trend, the spread is too wide, or the window closes first.

What happens if my MT5 goes offline?

Stop loss and take profit are sent with every order, so they sit at your broker. Break-even, trailing and the 20:00 UTC close need MT5 running; once it's back online, the EA picks up the management of its open trades. A VPS avoids the gap.

Does it hold trades overnight or over the weekend?

No. Everything still open is closed at 20:00 UTC, Fridays included.

Is there a backtest or a track record?

We don't publish backtests or performance figures for the beta. Backtests are built with hindsight and leave out real execution costs; a short live record says little either. We publish the rules instead — start on a demo account and see how it behaves at your broker.

Which broker symbol do I use?

Your broker's gold symbol: XAUUSD, GOLD, XAUUSD.r or similar. You set it once; the position size comes from your broker's own tick value, so different contract sizes are handled.

Backtested and simulated results have limitations: they are built with hindsight, leave out real execution costs and do not reflect live trading. Past or simulated results don't guarantee future results.
